SteveeeeeeeeeeęGood show to highlight lesser known board gamesOne of my favorite podcasts for board games. There's thousands of new games each year, and this podcast highlights games that are older or less known.

almostdeadguyMy favorite show on board gamesThis is a great show that presents an important voice on board games in contrast to the industry trends of bloat, kickstarter excess, complexity without depth, and over-saturation of new games. The games these guys play are not only games that have fallen under the radar, they are often tense, interactive, light on rules, and deep on strategy. The show is also not just a glorification of past trends, and the hosts will rightfully critique games that don’t offer enough player agency, or utilize design elements that have rightfully fallen by the wayside. The show also exhibits a number of qualities of good podcasts: likable hosts, good production values, the right balance of content to off-topic discussion to create a fuller picture of the hosts and guests as people, funny and insightful discourse, etc. If you are a board game fan (and especially if you are new to the hobby), I highly recommend you give this show a listen, as it may develop your perception of the important qualities of board games, help you discover games and designers you almost certainly weren't aware of, and possibly cause you to analyze your own tastes in a more substantive way.

(Mike) Board Games for OneGreat cameraderieThese guys are a pleasure to listen to. Theirs great camaraderie and it’s just nice to hear about games that have been around but maybe haven’t gotten the spotlight for some time. It’s a personal goal to hit up a game with the crew.

Brian Is BeanA valuable resourceWhile every board game podcast waxes on about the latest hotness blowing up Kickstarter or whatever, the Hidden Gems crew are determined to find great games that are lesser known, and I think it’s hard to overstate how valuable that is to the tabletop community at all levels. It’s a fantastic show and I look forward to their reviews.

bcurellJust really goodThe whole premise of this podcast is very interesting and fun. The three players have different perspectives and great chemistry. The production is spot on.

takjooSomething New!It feels like 98% of board game-related media is all about the new hotness. Which is why Cameron, Jason, and Chris' premise of featuring older games or games that aren't in the hotness is actually a breath of fresh air. Just a few episodes in and I've already discovered a few games I've never heard about anywhere else and can't wait to try them. Keep up the great show, fellas!

JoinTheRagTagArmyA place for the understated games out thereAs a fan of underrated and understated pieces of entertainment, I enjoy this show’s focus on the obscure. There are a lot of games I don’t like, and a few that I really enjoy. This podcast helps me define what kinds of games those are.

HueningmikeI’m on board!Just finished your “origens” episode zero, and I have to say that I loved it! You three have a natural camaraderie that speaks to being real friends, and your love of gaming absolutely shines through to the listener. I found myself smiling and laughing along with you, remembering my own beginnings with Dungeons and Dragons ( at age 9, well before there even was such a thing as a widely available home gaming system!), falling in love with classic coin-op arcade video games, PS1, and then transitioning to board games (my “gateway drug” was Settlers of Catan). Thanks for doing this, and I will be coming back for more episodes!

byoung39Original approach with GREAT deliveryThese guys have launched an excellent podcast. I’m a lower level board gamer, and I have REALLY enjoyed this podcast and learned a lot. They have an enjoyable balance of views and observations. They are serious about researching the material and providing honest observations. Their banter and side stories are enjoyable and a nice addition to the expert information. They end their podcast by encouraging us to enjoy our games and our search (for great games). They are really helping us along the journey. I highly recommend this podcast to any level of gamer who is looking for great information that is not focused on the mainstream, hot games of the day.

NedLudd78Very worthwhile podcastI love the format and the interaction between the hosts. I felt like I was sitting with them and hearing an in-depth discussion of these games. I felt that I came away with a great understanding of the games, their strengths and weaknesses. I liked that fact that the hosts each had their own views on the games and that they didn’t always agree. The differing perspectives help to give me a more complete understanding of the games. Looking forward to the next installment!

Mike BagssGreatest podcast everThis is the Chuck Norris of board game podcasts. The way they describe the gameplay paints a picture in your mind that would make Bob Ross jealous. Their attention to detail is second to none. Cameron got a haircut for his radio debut. Find another anchor with that kind of dedication. Enough reading... hit that play button!

BegeNCSUHidden Gem is a hidden gem about hidden gems!Right out of the gate, the three hosts bring you into their discussions as if you’re right there at the table while they talk about board games that you likely have never heard of. Each review starts with a dramatic reading of the flavor text, continues with a succinct explanation of the the gameplay and then scored along a practical scale (Is this game broken? Is it fun? Would I play it again?). Beyond their individual strengths as highly experienced and thoughtful board game enthusiasts, the real heart of the podcast is how they each approach each game from different (and sometimes opposing!) viewpoints. If you’re interested in hearing about previously unknown board games with an eye towards adding them to your own collection, then this podcast is definitely one you’ll need to subscribe to!

FranktheLlamaGreat niche board gaming podcastLove the premise of a board game podcast about under appreciated games by professionals who aren’t in the board game industry. Great production value and chemistry.
-
strebelnYou wouldn’t believe the board gamesThere is so much more than monopoly and scrabble but sometimes looking for a new and different game can be a little overwhelming! These guys help you discover and explore new styles and genres of games and it makes you want to go out and play each one!

DeltasmokeThe joy for games is realThese guys are great! In The Pilot it’s easy to tell these guys are having fun. And having fun playing the same game over and over again enough to give a full review has got to be tough - especially if you’d rate it low. Also appreciate the fact that they have different thoughts and different ratings of the same game and not every game is just given a middle of the road score. Look forward to listening to more of the podcast as it comes out!
